Visually Impaired Students Shine in New Training Program

We had an incredible three days (November 8th to 10th) at the Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association in Srinagar, celebrating the power of digital literacy. Under Project Jyoti, we successfully launched structured digital training and set up a new Resource Room for visually impaired students.

The heart of the event was the incredible demonstration by the first batch of Jammu and Kashmir Visually Challenged students who have been undergoing digital literacy training. Organized at NIELIT, Srinagar, this function showcased the rapid progress of these talented students.

We witnessed visually impaired children confidently demonstrating their digital skills—typing, navigating screens, and using laptops with screen readers.

Their speed, accuracy, and self-assurance were astounding, proving what is possible when accessibility and opportunity are provided. These skills were achieved in just five months of dedicated training, which included professional tuition supported by Vedantu online tutions, and educational assistance from partners like Indic AI and Bookshare.

This demonstration wasn’t just about using a computer; it was about unlocking a path toward independence and a brighter future.

A Community Effort

This program was a huge collaboration, bringing together amazing partners:

  • JK Handicapped Association (Organizers)
  • Torch it
  • mjunction services ltd
  • Indic AI Foundation
  • Raised Lines Foundation
  • Benetech / Bookshare
  • NIELIT J&K (Venue)

Tools and Education for All

We also trained volunteers in accessible content creation, focusing on producing essential Urdu reading materials and textbooks. This ensures that education is available in the local language!

We’re thrilled to announce that mjunction services ltd, led by Ms. Piya Nandi, will soon be providing 30 laptops to these students! This is the start of a long-term commitment to empowerment and independence.

A massive thank you to Mr. Abrar Ahmed from the JK Handicapped Association for his exceptional coordination and warm hospitality—he was key to the program’s success.

These three days were packed with learning and collaboration. We are so proud to be enabling not just literacy, but endless possibilities!
