The 15-Day Digital Literacy Program for Visually Challenged Students, a groundbreaking initiative led by the Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHCA), successfully concluded today. This program equipped 10 visually impaired students with essential computer literacy and braille skills, ensuring they have the tools to navigate the modern digital world with confidence and independence. Organized in collaboration with CHINAR Kashmir, ENABLE India, and Benetech, this initiative exemplifies JKHCA’s unwavering commitment to the empowerment of differently-abled individuals in the region.
The program was hosted at CHINAR Kashmir’s world-class campus in Khanpora, Budgam, providing students with an inclusive and supportive learning environment. JKHCA played a pivotal role in coordinating and executing the initiative, ensuring that every aspect of the program catered to the unique needs of the students.
JKHCA worked closely with its partners to secure essential infrastructure, assistive technology, nutritious meals, and expert-led training. ENABLE India generously donated laptops, while Benetech sponsored the training sessions, amplifying the program’s impact.
The initiative was spearheaded by two dedicated disability rights activists and senior volunteers, Abrar Ahmed (JKHCA) and Abdul Wajid (CHINAR Kashmir). Their relentless efforts ensured that students not only gained digital literacy but also recognized their potential to participate fully in the digital age.
Beyond skill-building, the program was a symbol of empowerment, equipping students with laptops and assistive tools that will serve as gateways to education, professional opportunities, and independence.
